8 Features to consider when buying Dirt Bike Grips or Motocross Grips:

Get tips for selecting the best dirt bike grips based on your personal rider preferences: make installation easy, improve your overall bike control, reduce vibration fatigue, avoid arm pump, and more! Clutch control… throttle control… it all starts with your hands. Whether you’re railing corners or navigating rocky riverbeds, your grip on the bike matters. That’s why dirt bike grips are such a personal choice for many riders. Your grips are arguably your most critical point of contact with your dirt bike. They not only impact your overall bike control, helping you hang onto the bike with less effort! But they can also reduce your risk of experiencing arm pump by allowing you to relax your grip while also improving your overall stamina by reducing vibration fatigue. So it’s no surprise there is a wide range of dirt bike and motocross grips available to suit different rider preferences.

Including:

LOCK-ON VS GLUE GRIPS

While “regular” dirt bike grips are attached via wire and glue, lock-on grips are generally considered easier to remove and install. They consist of a plastic sleeve that slides over the bar on the left and a throttle tube sleeve that replaces the throttle tube on the right. Both can usually be locked in place quickly with some form of fast-mount technology. While lock-on grips typically cost MORE than regular grips, they tend to last longer and eliminate the frustration associated with both removing and installing the glue variety.

RUBBER THICKNESS

Some grips feature multiple layers of rubber with varying compound densities to help reduce arm pump and hand fatigues due to vibration.

RUBBER BLEND

The rubber compound used varies by brand. Some are harder and more durable. Others are softer and do a better job of absorbing vibration. Rider preference is the deciding factor here.

VIBRATION REDUCTION

Some grips feature gel-like compounds that help reduce the vibration absorbed by your hands and arms.

GRIP SURFACE

A tacky grip surface allows for a more relaxed grip on your bars. However, they’re not for everyone. Again, rider preference matters.

GRIP PATTERN

Choose from full diamond, diamond/waffle, waffle, half-waffle, smooth, or ribbed grip patterns. Waffle grips are popular with many riders for improving grip, and although some complain they’re harder to clean.

GRIP LENGTH

Make sure you look for a grip that spans the full length of your clutch/brake levers. Your grips shouldn’t come up short or leave a gap.

VARIETY OF COLOURS

Many grip brands come in various styles and colours to match your bike or graphics.
