Make Way for the Dirt Busters with 24MX Detergents and Motocross Exhaust Cleaners

It may seem a like a good idea to use whatever product you find lying around the house when cleaning your bike. The truth is, though, many household cleaning fluids and detergents contain chemicals that will damage your bike. 24MX has the specialist products you need, from motocross exhaust cleaners to detergents for the bodywork. To help you choose the correct product, here's a quick rundown of the different types of specialist motorcycle detergents and cleaners.

Brake cleaner

Brake callipers, discs and fittings get covered in dust, debris and mud. You need to clean these components using a specialist brake cleaner. Brake cleaner sprays dissolve grease, grime and old brake fluid on discs and brake pads. To use, spray on, allow the product to work in and clean off. You can also use this spray as an exhaust cleaner for the (cold) header pipe. It dissolves dirt and won’t leave a residue.

Chain cleaner

If you spray a coating of lube on a dirty chain, all you do is seal in the dirt. Chain cleaner gets into all the tiny gaps between the side plates and the rollers. Moreover, it does this without damaging the rubber seals. All you need to do is thoroughly clean with a chain brush, then rinse off with clean water.

Silicone spray

Silicone spray is not technically for cleaning your dirt bike. You can, though, apply it to the paintwork after washing your bike, plastic body parts, wheels, engine covers and frame. The silicone spray creates a protective layer. So, the next time your bike is muddy, hose it down, spray and watch it gleam.

All-in-one cleaner

This type of spray has several uses. All-in-one sprays lubricate cables and throttles, springs, footrests and almost every moving component on your bike. This cleaner also acts as penetrating oil for stubborn nuts and bolts, leaving a water-repellent finish. This product is also suitable to use as a motorbike exhaust cleaner. Before applying, ensure the exhaust is cool and use primarily on the silencer.

Pre-decal cleaner

If you want to re-vamp your dirt bike with decals, you must make sure they can stick to a clean surface. Whether going onto a plastic or metal surface, always use a pre-decal cleaner. This product will ensure that dirt and any previous adhesive residue is gone, so your new decals are ready to apply.

Helmet and visor cleaner

A dirty visor means blurred vision, whether it's bugs in the summer or rain in the winter. What's more, dirt causes a visor to diffract headlight beams, which makes it difficult to see. A specially formulated visor cleaning spray will give you a crystal clear view. This product is also suitable for cleaning your helmet.

Interior helmet wash

Most modern motorcycle helmets have a removable liner. This feature is essential to keep the inside of your lid clean and bacteria-free. However, washing the liner in regular soap is not ideal. So, look out for antibacterial detergent. In this section, you will also find sanitiser sprays. If you haven't got time to remove and wash the liner, these are suitable for cleaning and neutralising helmet smells

Dirt bike cleaner

Dirt bikes get covered in grime every ride. The mud builds up under the mudguards, wheels, and engine if it's wet. Cleaning a dirt bike with baked-on mud is no fun. In this case, you need a specialist dirt bike detergent. These deep-cleaning agents loosen the toughest grunge. Better yet, they do it without damaging the paintwork, plastics or lifting decals. You can also use these detergents as a motocross exhaust cleaner. Remember, though before using, to plug the end of the pipe.

Off-road bikes take a hammering, but you can keep them clean enough to spot any potential problems by using 24MX detergents and cleaners.
